Keeping Families Close: Primco Partners with Ronald McDonald House Charities®

Family means the world to Primco. That’s not hyperbole; it’s the sentiment by which this company has operated for 75 years. Who better, then, for Primco to extend its philanthropic attention to than Ronald McDonald House Charities®? Cam and Tyler invited Sandi Ferchau, stewardship manager at RMHC Alberta, to discuss the organization’s history, its impact on families, and its exciting co-branding partnership with Primco–an initiative in which retailers can also participate.

Few brands are more iconic than McDonald’s. Behind the menu of delicious burgers and signature fries, however, lies an equally impressive charitable component. Nowhere is the company’s compassion more evident than at the hundreds of Ronald McDonald Houses sponsors worldwide. Thanks to donor support, RMHC provides comfortable, affordable accommodations close to top-notch pediatric facilities for families with children seeking medical care.

Navigating a child’s health crisis is daunting for anyone. Families that must pursue medical treatment in an unfamiliar city are saddled with additional emotional and financial burdens. RMHC’s home-away-from-home model eases that anxiety, allowing families to stay together in a safe and sensitive environment rather than stress over finding temporary housing.

“A lot of times, these people have literally just landed somewhere,” says Sandi. “They have no idea where they are and, so, that’s why we always have McDonald’s at the forefront: they are our forever and founding partner. They’ve done so much across Canada and throughout the world for our families.”

Cam has long admired RMHC’s “families caring for families” vision. “It feels like that’s what Primco does as well,” he says. In keeping with the company’s legacy, Primco is dedicating a portion of every sale from its Estates Mosaic Tile Collection through the end of the year to support RMHC chapters across Canada. Retailers who join the initiative receive an updated header kit with SKUs featuring the logo and support details for their province-specific RMHC on the reverse of each board.

There are, of course, other ways to assist RMHC. In addition to the Mosaic initiative, folks should consider rounding up purchases whenever they visit a McDonald’s restaurant. It’s an easy way to get funds to where they’re needed while enjoying the fries you love. Or check out RMHC volunteer pages for information on fundraisers like McHappy Day and local golf tournaments.

Volunteer participation makes every Ronald McDonald House feel like home to families in need. “Community partners are a big part of fundraising for us,” says Sandi. “Thanks so much to Primco for reaching out and giving us this opportunity.”

QUOTES

Sandi Ferchau
“I loved how you shared the story, that it [Primco] was a family run business. And again, it just ties into everything that we do. You know, Ronald McDonald House is here for those families, helping to alleviate the emotional and financial and physical burdens that they’re encountering.”

“A lot of people said to me, ‘Oh, it must be a sad place to work.’ And I’m like, absolutely not! First of all, we get to see those families go through their journey, and they get to go home with their kid, you know, feeling better. And, secondarily, each and every day, I get to talk to philanthropic people that want to help and make that impact.”

“Thank you to all of you at Primco. We appreciate what you’re doing and sharing the love and jumping in and becoming a partner. That means the world to us.”

Cam Overacker
“There’s a connection between Ronald McDonald House…and I think the tagline was ‘families caring for families’ or something like that if I’m not mistaken, and it feels like that’s what Primco does as well.”

“The company started in 1947 and so we’re super happy about a 75th anniversary. And one thing we’ve always had is that we’ve contributed back to the markets that all of our employees live [in]. And we always say, when you support Primco… you support your local community.”

“Don’t wait for yourself to be in the needy position or for someone you know to be in the position of need. Just take some time amongst you, your wife, your husband, your family, and just give back some time. If everyone just strived a little harder to do that, the world would be a better place.”

Tyler Yelland
“The thing I like about the Ronald McDonald House is it’s not specific to one disease… I mean, it’s supporting those families.

“Anybody who doesn’t have a current Mosaic program, we’d love your support on it to help as much as we can. And the more we sell, the more we can all donate, so we’re looking forward to that.”
